Haworth Primary Resource Provision

Welcome to the Nest

Rationale

Haworth’s Resourced Provision, known as the Nest, is dedicated to meeting the diverse needs of students, primarily diagnosed with ASD, while also accommodating those with varying needs that benefit from specialised learning approaches and strategies. The Haworth Nest Class, inspired by the concept of a bird's nest, aims to create an environment that supports the unique needs of its students, nurtures their wellbeing and promotes personal development.

The Nest aspires to be a warm, happy and secure space where all children can engage in exploration, find calmness, refocus, and participate in various focused sessions, whether in small groups or on a one-to-one basis. At Haworth Primary School Resourced Provision, our overarching goal is to evolve into an effective, dynamic learning environment that serves both the staff and students with a clear purpose.

Our vision is to transform the Nest room into a central 'hub' within the school, one that is recognized, understood, and valued by both students and staff. As a relatively new endeavour at Haworth Primary, both the provision and the mainstream aspects of the school are embarking on this transformative journey together.

What do we offer?

The Nest at Haworth Primary School provides specialised support for up to 12 children, offering a tailored learning environment. Led by a specialist teacher, the Nest enables flexible engagement in individual or small group activities within a calm atmosphere. Students seamlessly integrate into mainstream classes, supported by trained staff experienced in Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC). Access to services like Speech and Language Therapists enhances support, with regular assessments aligning with National Curriculum Guidelines. Each child receives a personalised program, empowering active participation in the mainstream curriculum. Ongoing communication with families ensures informed involvement, making the Nest a beacon of inclusive and nurturing support for each child's growth and development.

Curriculum

The resourced provision at our school caters to students with diverse and often complex needs, tailoring individualised learning packages to address their unique requirements. Although the goal, as outlined in the Area guidelines for Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) and alternative provision, is for students to spend the majority of their time in mainstream classes, the reality may differ, as detailed in each student's transition package.

Our curriculum encompasses English functional skills, math, topic lessons, and sessions on Personal, Social, and Emotional Development (PSED) and sensory exploration. Thematic learning places information in context, with regularly updated, age-appropriate themes linking to both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 of the national curriculum. We maintain a balanced coverage of subjects and continuously adjust the curriculum topic cycle to accommodate transitioning students. During mainstream class sessions, resourced provision students actively participate in foundation subjects and phonics, receiving support from adults. Collaborative efforts ensure a seamless and supportive environment, fostering confidence and knowledge among supporting staff.
