Tour De France Cycle Challenge
Haworth Primary School are proud and delighted to welcome the world’s greatest cycle race to one of the most beautiful parts of the United Kingdom. We are honoured to have a stage of the 2014 Tour de France travelling through our village and we are confident that the riders will find our spectacular scenery both challenging and exhilarating.
We have used static bikes and balance bikes in school to cover the 2000 miles of the Tour De France. Each pupil had the opportunity to cycle in P.E. lessons, lunch times and at other times during the school day. Each pupil was encouraged to collect sponsors. Monies raised will be split between Manorlands Hospice and School fund.
Parents and staff also took part in the challenge. We have been very much been involved in the publicity for the Tour De France in our village. We have appeared in the press and been filmed by both the BBC and ITV television channels. Here are just a few press photographs from our recent appearance on Calendar News.

This half term our ‘Cycling Club’ has been gearing up to learn about safe cycling. Our children are benefitting from the cycling expertise of Mrs Roberts, our own trained instructor, who is running the sessions that is described as the ‘cycling proficiency’ for the 21st century. The sessions are designed to give children the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today’s roads.
Children are taken on a journey from the basics of balance and control, all the way through to planning and making a journey by themselves on busier roads.
We want our children to have the best opportunity to learn about safe cycling. Below are some photographs of their training sessions here at Haworth Primary School.
